DAILY IOWAN, SEPT 29, 1971 [photo] WOMEN'S ROOM The University of Iowa's liberated women will open the doors tonight and begin the first in a series of workshops designed to orientate them to their movement. --Daily Iowan Photo Women to discuss job bias Six days of workshops for women, marking the opening of the new Women's Center at 3 East Market, begin at 7:30 p.m. tonight with discussions of "Economic Class in the Women's Movement" and the "H.E.W. Movement," a look at discrimination against University of Iowa-employed women. The two workshops--both to be held in the Center--will run simultaneously. Free child care will be available for women wishing to attend. The workshops were conceived and coordinated by groups of women who have been holding periodic open meetings. Thursday's workshops, which will also run simultaneously beginning at 7:30 p.m., are called "Women's Studies" (an attempt to discover "the relationship that academic studies, the learning of skills and informal discussion groups can have in the education of women," according to a leaflet distributed by Center workers), and "Sound selling for Women," which is to include a discussion of consciousness-raising groups. "Abortion and Birth Control" and a workshop for homosexual women, "Lesbian Consciousness," will be held at 7:30 p.m. Friday in the Center. At 10 a.m. Saturday morning, a workshop on the socialization of children and the merits of daycare and one on guerrilla theatre will take place. Also Saturday, at 2 p.m. in the Main Lounge of Wesley House, 120 N. Dubuque, will be a multimedia presentation and a general session for exchange of ideas from workshops. An open meeting to discuss the structural organization of the Women's Center will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday Wesley House Lounge. The workshops and meetings are open to all interested women.
