Many methods will be tried to break the strike. Chances are that SDS will be redbaited. We will be accused of being a small minority trying to manipulate students for our own evil purposes. However, SDS has been consistently open about our position on the strike. This is an attempt to isolate SDS from the mass of students and therefor try to break the strike. It is also an attack on other strike supporters in that it accuses them of being too stupid to know that they're being used. It also tries to label anybody who fights back against oppression as a "red" thereby isolating students from militant tactics, usually necessary to win. Anti-communism has long been sucessful, the people's struggles have been defeated. Unity is necessary. Another tactic that will be used to break the strike will be pacifism. Students will be urged not to block scabs. who does this serve? Pacifism implies that oppressed groups shouldn't fight back. it legitimizes scabbing which will break the strike. The only way we will win is if we are unified in our efforts to make the strike effective. If there is any violence it will be caused either by student scabs trying to break our strike or by the police if and when the Administration calls them in to break the strike. Again, the only way to fight this is by solidarity. students for a democratic society/university of iowa (SDS meets every Monday night at 7:30 in the Memorial Union) STRIKE TO WIN!
