26 THE FANTASITE part of fandom). My time has seen many fan feuds, with myself in the hottest part of a majority, but--with one notable exception--they've not been my fault at all and have proven obnoxious. ((Sorry, but we have to cut out the other two pages of this letter!)) 1836 39th Avenue, Oakland, California.------------------------------ DOUG BLAKELY: Odd's bods, I suppose I had better hurry and tell you what an on-the-beam issue the Anniversary Fantasite was. 'S'true. And I suppose that telling you Morrie's cover was the best of the best so far in fanzinedom, and that the issue was devastatingly hyper---all this is probably old stuff. The whole rag had a professional atmosphere, and the only disappointment was in the fiction department. "A Matter of Time" wasn't too bad, but "The Garden", with its heavily proffered moral reminded me oddly of a curdled embryo "Pilgrim's Progress". "Among the Hams and Pros" cops the gold star this month. I must confess that I'm partial to anything written by our own Sammywell Deeee Russell, and if there's anybody who can review a pro mag as good as Sam can, I haven't seen him. Sam's "Science Fiction Book Reviews" though it didn't rate a heading on the contents page, was likewise a very intelligent and worthwhile article, and gave Sam more space with which to demonstrate his astounding command of language. "The Incredible Years", apparently a new idea, must have cost Doc Lowndes a hell of a lot of work. "A Proposal" means well; Carl has a good idea there, and presents it well, but it's a fifty-to-one shot that some form of politics would enter to goo the thing up before it would be in effective operation. "Critique" by Simak is another presentation of a very good point in the criticism of stories. HQ Battery, "nd Bn., 6th C. A., Fort Baker, Cal.----------------------------------------- EXCERPTS-- E. E. EVANS: Enjoyed your latest issue, and certainly think you are putting up some stiff competition for the other fanzine eds. Your mimeo-fotos are a jump on the rest of us, all OK. Good Luck. 191 Capital Avenue, S.W., Battle Creek, Michigan. --- LOUIS C. SMITH: Fantasite is positively the best thing to come out in the fan field. Everyone who has seen it around here has given rave notices. Best thing in the issue was "The Incredible Years" by Doc Lowndes. We need more such stuff, well-thought-out, well-written. Dollens' cover was terrific. 1845 Prince St., Berkeley, California.--- FOREST J ACKERMAN: I just CAN'T find time to comment on the Annish of Fantasite other'n to call it COLOSSAL! So I'll let money talk and say I'm inclosing a buck for extras. 236 1/2 N. New Hampshire, Hollywood, California.---- BOB TUCKER: What a pretty anniversary issue youse put out. Forthcoming LeZ fires the bells and rings the cannon over the issue. --- LARRY SHAW: The annish is just plain super, that's all. I can't think of enough wonderful things to say about it. Howja ever do it?----------------------------------------- It is regrettable that we haven't space enough to include the many other fine, interesting letters that came in, but we just had to have some room for articles and columns! If there is any extra space next issue, we'll include some of those which didn't get printed this time -- and don't think your letter wasn't good enough -- they were all excellent, and we appreciated all of the comments tremendously. Don't forget to send us your comments on this number, also, now! Skeded for next and forthcoming issues: "The Ice-King", by Samuel D. Russell; positively an item that shouldn't be missed! "The Golden Dawn", by Larry B. Farsaci; those that liked "The Incredible Years" will rave over this, as well. "Sauerkraut und Gefiltefish" (which was crowded out this time) will be back, along with "Recommended Reading", "MFS Notes", and "MFS Members", which are all absent for one reason or another. Also to appear in the next issue is D. W. Boggs' "Alas, Poor Yorick!", a timely and engaging article. --------------------------
