THE SEA BREEZE by BARBARA STEADMAN On May 30th, 1942, the Harbor Fantasy League held its tenth regular meeting at the home of Mr. and Mrs. (Pogo) Rus Wood[[?]], at 628 West 15th St., in San Pedro. Those present were: Wes and Barbara Steadman, Dan and Jane Lyons, of Lomita[[?]], Jack (new in the area forces) and Luey Mears, Pogo and Rus Wood, and Ed and Mary Hall. Also present were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Smith, of Wilmington, and Mr. and Mrs. Al Vlecsk[[?]] of Long Beach, as guests. As the meeting was [[?]] as a sort of informal "going away" party for Jack Mears, who has been drafted (perhaps "inducted" is a better word) into the Army, it was agreed that the business meeting should be curtailed to the absolute minimum. Pogo reported that she had had a card from L.R. Chauvinet, to the effect that FAN-DAMN, the first HARBOR FANTASY LEAGUE fanzine, had been recieved, and would go out[[?]] with the first FAPA mailing, on June 6. Plans for a second HFL fanzine were presented by Rue Wood and Dan Lyons, the moving spirits of FAN-DAMN. (Ed. note -- Oh, yeah? Who did all that messy hektoing? --Pogo) And-- ! Dan Lyons marched up and paid his months DUES without even being ASKED to. It was decided to call our second issue POGORUS instead of FAN-DAMN IT, it seems that Gus Willmorth, new director of the Los Angeles Science Fantasy Society, got it confused with Yerke's THE DAMN THING, as we decided to call it by something unrelated to anything else. "A rose by any other name, will ain't a hollyhock," as Dan Lyons put it. After a brief treasurer's report, the business meeting adjourned, and fun started. Prohibition punch (no ingredients prohibited) was served, and blackjack, [[?]] poker finished the evening. A good time [[?]] were HAD.
