When The Martians Came "We'll tune the psychometer," Suggested brave Zor D'Aan, "And find which god is dearest Unto the heart of man. "A couple months of study Should neatly do the trick. We'll analyze their worship And see what makes them tick." For forty days they listened From their eyrie[[?]] in the skies, And heard the host of prisons[[?]] And [[?]] arise. Ten thousand minor godlings Earth's teeming[[?]] millions knew, But to one central deity[[?]] All humankind was true. The Martian psychometer Plumbed deep the human soul. Cried Zob, "This godliong rules the Earth From pole to snowy pole "Each mortal on the plane [[?]]horts him night and day. No need to dally longer -- We'll start in right away ! " Down from the spangled heavens They swooped in headlong flight, In old Times Square they landed In the stillness of the night.
