PSFS News Page 26 THOMAS WHITESIDE The whole thing started one day in November, 1820, the day I was born to be exact. If things had been a bit different on that day my whole life might have taken a different turn, but I was born so young that I didn't know any better, so I just grew up, without giving the growing up process any though. In fact, I was pretty tight with my thoughts in those days. To be quite truthful, in those days I wouldn't think of giving away a thought, but then in those days thoughts were pretty valuable. Nowadays thoughts are so inexpensive and almost everybody is scattering them around. However, time passed and the day came when it was necessary to enroll mu name on the books of the public school system, and then the fun started. I soon found that I did not like the idea of going to school, but at the same time I also discovered that it was something I could not avoid, so I set out to make the best of the situation. The teachers, however, soon tired of me making the best of the situation and they told my parents that if I did not behave things were going to happen. I was forced to reform, so unfortunately I cannot tell you what things were going to happen, although I have given the matter much thought in these later years. When the time came to promote me to the fourth grade they had to transfer me to another school. I had so worn out theold one that they had to tear it down (" 'sa fact!). Then after two years in the second grammar school, during which I proceeded, with my well known tact, to make myself quite as much at home as I had in the first school, I graduated to the Junior High School, much to the relief of the teachers.
