day cannot step on American soil. She lives in Cuernavaca. She was a budding young star, she made the mistake of taking this movie, this role and was forever banned from the United States. The producer Judio (Jewish) spent 10 years in jail for making that movie. And the movie "Salt of the Earth", is very simply about the salt strike in Silver City , New Mexico, the Chicanos won. That was the crime. So, then came 1960 and Chicanos have always been the source of votes for the Democratic Party. The strategy of the major Presidential campaigns have always been to go into the community, pick the leadership, carve out some sort of constituency and deliver those votes for the Democrates. The 1960 Presidential campaign was no different; John F. Kennedy sought out Chicanos. But it was different in a very little twist. Chicanos sought out John Kennedy. So, as there was a movement from the top down their was a movement from the bottom up. After the campaign blew over there remained two very visible organizations and important ones in the early sixties, the Mexican-American Political Organization in California and the Political Association of Spanish Speaking Organizations. Two new words, in California they are saying they are Mexican-Americans in Tejas we are Spanish speaking. These organizations were the first organizations to claim overt political activity. The LULAC, G.I. Forum, have in their planks today a non-partisan attitude. These organizations were the first political organizations but political for the Democratic Party. They have also contributed some evils we are still trying to get rid of and that is they have established a tradition of having a convention where your main speaker is a white political, or you convention passes resolutions that are ineffective and make a mockery of the inherent "Chicano Power". Also where they sign petitions that are filed in cabinet thirteen. This fake illusion of having power and of doing the bidding for the Democratic Party became getting entrenched firmly in the early sixties to the point that Chicanos began reacting such as Reyes Tijerina, in 1967. When he couldn't get the resolutions about the Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo lifted from that page and to become a reality the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo like many treaties as we are watching now with Wounded Knee. The treaties that this country has signed with any nation internal or external are laws of this land. Look at the American Constitution, article six or eight, talks about the law of the land saying, decisions of the Supreme Court. The laws passed by congress and the treaty signed by this nation are the governing laws of this country. Yet that article has never been respected.
