January 7

JANUARY 7

1942. -24° Awake 2-5 with indigestion then slept till 7:20! Branch cars wouldn't start, so K took my car + took boys to H.S. Walked to mailbox twice. Wrote comments. Mopped, baked bread. darned hose. Took mags. to [Schmidts?] Read in "Good Neighbors" by Herbert Herring.

1943. Big ironing - 8 shirts. Mended, packed Hans' laundry. Walked to mailbox twice + to Henkels' to complete plans for surprise party on Mrs. Wermuth.

1944. -2° Sunny. Frank rode with Ralph Davis, home at 11:30 on the cadet's truck! I walked to Buss' for eggs + to mailbox twice. Sewed on quilt, made buttonholes in Frank's shorts, read in "Danby Folk"

1945 Cars + streets icy again; sleety rain. [name?] [name?] here for dinner. Quite interested in our New Guinea + India gifts. Finished reading "[Canal?] Folk."

64° Jan 6. 1946. Hans + I walked to church, then walked home afterward fast as I had forgotten to turn off flame under pot roast - but it was O.K! Wrote letters, read dansk, o.s.v.
