JANUARY 17 1942 Baked Han's birthday cake for his 50th birthday, and a white cake for church dinner - Bruce Smith here till Hans came home, and we went to Middleton for Frank then to Madison for new suits for them, and overcoat for Hans at M. W's new store. 1943. Slept till after 8. S.S. and church. Talked with Mary Lund Meffert in hotel. Mr. and Mrs. Ascher of Milwaukee looked house over Wrote Hans, Helene, Mrs. Vaughn, Mrs. Paulson, cards to Dora, Amanda. 1944. Mild sunny day, Awake 3-5 (indigestion). Gave Frank sulfur pills - Went to Madison with Mrs. Bress- Took Mrs. Hankel some fresh buttermilk. 1945. Gave Hans "apple" nightshirt, and his mother new shaving brush for his birthday. He came out home for lunch one. He got birthday letter from Signe. I met him after his Dutch exam. We went to Danish Club. They sang Happy Birthday- in Danish, too! 1946. Baked Hans a birthday cake. Drove to Mrs. Gilliani's were I used her machine 10:30-3, making most of 1 dress and several sunsuits. Mrs. Walters basting for me. 6 there, cutting. Mr. and Mrs. Nate Burhans here for supper and till 10. Had chicken, jello, cake, etc.
