JANUARY 19 1942. Up at 3 to take Hans to 4 o'clock train to Chicago. Took Frank to school, did some errands. Cooked a chicken, did more filing and cleaning. Wrote Whitson's. Telegram from Hans. 1943. -17° Very windy. Much snow in lane. Mrs. Stanke phoned to release me from my speaking engagement at Belleville WSCS. Wrote RC and to Frank. Pauline and I cut out my plaid flannel house dress. Did the ironing. 1944. Terrific sore throat kept me awake 2-5:30. Baked bread, cleaned up house. Special M. Club Comm.. here in eve to plan for Feb. 4 card party- Long, Miller, Bell, Schwann, Whalen, and G. Zeigler and Buss. We played 3 hands 500 and I served strawberry shortcake and coffee. Ollie C. here. 1945. Hans laid up from effect of shots . He got birthday cards from Kathryn, Olga, and his Aunt Martha, 2 G1 neckties from Hilda, who was were in eve. Hans and I drove to farewell dinner for Rev, who leaves for Europe tomorrow. At Cosmos Club. Sat next to Col. Miling who told much of Sig's outfit, near Assam, Assan. 1946 Chilly. Worked at airport- 7:30-12. Served 310. 8th Sat. in a row. Nearly crazy from itching after I got home. Sewed new pocket into Han's pants.
