FEBRUARY 14 1942. Awake from 4 to 6, but got 3 meals for 5 or so! Hans & I to Middleton. Baked bread, apple crisp, & gingerbread. Girls & I took Hans to 6:40 train to Des M. Got Miss Z. & shopped for Sig's hat & K's shoes & boots. Stuck in ice near stadium. Home 8:30. 1943 11 in my S.S. class. -20°. S.S. contest dinner, about 75 there. Helped in kitchen till it got too gassy. K & I " Sig move to 307 So. Orchard St. Called on Mrs. Hoffhive, who was supposed to take my place as S.L. sec. in WSCS, but won't now. 1944 Frank had to walk (part way) in to be at Draft Center in Madison at 5:30 to go on to Milwaukee for physical exam. He passed & got home at 8. I put up 4 new window shades; helped Pauline a little with K's suit. Mrs. Buss & Janet, Mrs. Dick & Mrs. Fisch here in eve. Wrote Ph. Branch news & comments. 34° 43° 1945. K took both keys to Wash. so I had to stay home! I typed 4 page translation of Earl Hanson's letter & sent to Pioneer. In eve Hilde, Ellen & "Lucky" here. We made fudge. "Lucky" has to go overseas the 18th. Hilda brought one a Valentine 1946 Slept little so stayed home & slept. Arm is swollen some. Hans home for late lunch then we shopped in D.C. Finally got his rubbers & shoes, hat & 2 colored shirts. To Fred Rossiter's for dinner, also Mr. Baker of UNRRA staff. They showed their pictures taken in China.
