FEBRUARY 27 1942. Hans in bed with flu: Typed airmail to Hilda and another. Baked bread. 1943. Baked bread, mopped & waxed dining room & kitchen linoleums. We moved sewing machine to back room, refrig. to kitchen, & finished fitting kitchen linoleum- edge. I varnished it! 1944. Hans & I to Laymen's Sunday at church. Bill Rabe & EQ Kromrey "occupied the pulpit," assisted by CW Schaefer, Phelps, John Schwenn, Dr Muehlmeier, & Clarence Chatt. Rode home with Mrs. Cornwell. Elmer Witteirburg here in P.M. Sold my rifle to Al. Zeigler. 40° 51° 1945. Went in on 10:30 bus, left German dictionary for Mr. Cartwright to take Hans, ate lunch with Frank Beale & Mrs. Rost. Saw "The Key of the Kingdom" at the Palace - and a rat! Got petit-point needles for Sig. 4 letters, inc. 2 from Hans. 71° 1946 Another spring-like day. Wore my new suit & a yr. old hat to Wash. to take typhoid, cholera, & plague photos in P.M. Saw Hazel Christensen, to leave for Frankfurt at 4:00 A.M. by plane! To potluck supper almost too late because clock was 10" slow for home mission study class in charge of Dr. Clarke. Rainy eve
