MARCH 12 1942 Fine spring day. Wore suit coat — at Ray Robert's from 9:30 to 3:30 at planning mtg. of WSCS. Had charge of morning & closing devotions —candle & globe. Took 2 qt frozen berries for 20 for lunch. Called on Mary MacKenzie. Card to Hans. Church in eve. 1943. Fine springlike day. Drove around square on Red Cross roll call. $23 so far; K moved in to stay with Sig. Snowy driving, got stuck twice. Finished third drape. 4H Foods girls here in eve. Delores, Janet, Elaine, & Alice. Made honey custard & cocoa. 1944. K, Hans & I to church where Rev Stanke gave too flattering farewell for us. Janet & La Von here for quilt scraps. I went with Mrs. Buss to see Mrs. Henkel at Lakeview. Zillie here in eve. Gave me blue lapel flower. Played 500. 60° 1945 Practised in Murphy's "auditorium" & our church. Sewed purple bars on epaulet's on Mrs. Zoller's Red Cross uniform—for Home Service. Gave our play "24 Hours a Day" to W.S.C.S. I forgot one speech! But picked it up. 60° 1946. Sent pkg. to Aunt Katherine in Lerte — some 18 or 20 spools thread, coffee, sweet cocoa, choc. candy & choc. chips & Sig's biege dress. Got myself blue wool jersey dress, brown print [illegible] rayon, brown shoes & galoshes! for next winter. Overcast seams on rayon & on new black slip. Spent an hour with Irene N. Worked on scrapbooks.
