MARCH 15 1942. Cloudy & chilly. 66 at S.S. Got Kathryn at Meyer's after S.S. and found that Mr. Hanneman is to have 4H gardens, etc. Z, F, K & I played Lex. Rummy & Hearts. Wrote Hans & Anna Skott. 1943. Rainy. Frank's cold too bad for him to go to work. Hemmed last drape. Rendered 14# lard. Worked on crocheted rug. Hard rain all day — high west wind in eve. 1944 Did huge washing 3 [db?] blankets, 11 curtains, etc. Hung all inside. Hans took my steel cabinets to store room. Farewell party for me at school. I got 2" at 500. They gave me $6.90! 69° 1945. K & I washed windows on outside & some inside. We kept 5 mo. Frank [Greibble?] while his folks did some final shopping. They were all here for 6 o'clock dinner then we took them to 7:20 train to Hayesville, N.C. 70° 1946 Went to Wash. on 10 AM bus; found I can exchange typewriter for a portable with $40 [boot?]; went to Cook's Travel Agency — they said I should be able to get passage to China by June; went to see lovely pink magnolias by Interior bldg. Saw white [starring?] magnolias on White House lawn. To Alex to chapter house & got cleaned dresses. Made "pet" scrapbook.
