MARCH 20 55° 1942. Saw Mr. Hanneman, who agreed to take 4H Garden Club, etc. Stopped to see Mrs. Roberts. Roasted a chicken. Wrote book review of Stuart Chase's "Primer of Economics" 1943 Juanita helped 2 hr. in AM. Baked bread. Sig home till 5:55 bus. Adele phoned, Olga sick after operation - Rochester. K came out on 10:30 bus. 1944. Up at 5 at Rabe's, saw Frank off at 6:30 for Ft. Sheridan, Ill. after we and the 6 boys ate breakfast at Young's, W. Wash Ave Hans + I finished packing car and cleaning house, dispose of Frank's clothes, etc. Left at 2 drove 235 mi. - Chicago Lake Shore Drive - stayed overnight with Al + Jo at Morocco. 83° 60° 1945. K. at police court for a hearing of the negro so we did our washing in relays. Wonderful day for drying. Did the ironing + some mending. Was Mrs. Newmarket in eve at Mt. Vernon P.T.A. Such a hot stage - and a cold audience! 60° 1946 I washed while Elsie was at Beauty Shop. Phoned to Jay W. in from West Coast. Elsie + I got off bus at 19th + Const., saw Iwo Jima statue, magnolia blossoms (hurt a bit by cold wind), White House; bought underwear at Woody's. Saw Red Cross play in eve that Lucille Zoller wrote, at Wash. St. WSCS. Got my specs in PM.
