April 12 1942. Kids wouldn't get up, making hurry at last to get to church. 87 at S.S. Miss Harland + Emma Freehling came on 10 'clock for chicken [and?] strawberry dinner. At 5 we drove to Mendota, then after lunch they took my car to Elkhorn. 1943. Up at 4:40. Frank's breakfast + lunch by 5:30. Hans + K with lunch to bus depot by 7. Home for Z's breakfast at 8. Patched shirts, planted seeds. To yearbook planning meeting at library at 1:30-4:30. Read Sigrid Undsets's "Happy Times in Norway". 1944. 70°. Awake quite a bit from 2:30 on. Made choc fruit + nut cookies + fudge to send Frank, ironed + put up kitchen curtains, drove to Alex. Darned, completed last stitches on dress Pauline made. April showers. 1945. To Alex.- better luck. Found 2 yd. goods at Penney's got "Capt. Castile" at Better Mouse Trap lending library. Read in [sen?] where Mrs. Wakefield told me of Pres. Roosevelt's sudden death in Warm Springs, Ga. I heard Bishop Hughes at Meth. Church. 1946. Nice day. Reached Bolin's at Aroma Park, Ill. about 10 or so. Baby Janet Carol fine. Went to second grade wtih Helen in P.M. Bobby + his bike disappeared till after dark. Bea's "hired girl", Tina Rankin quite a character. We played "Spat."
