1942. Perfect A.M. I washed and K put in early garden. I helped her. Napped, of course! Mother's club Comm. mtg. at Henkel's in eve. John Lonergan here from 9 to 11:40! 1943 Slept 8 hours. Wrote R.C. took mrs. Nicholas in and we selected $50 worth of library books and 3 for Truax soldiers. Bought new ft. pen. Had lunch with Mary MacKenzie + Ann Louis. Got Dr. Meyer's verdict at hosp: no pyloric stasis, no gallbladder trouble - just nerves! Hard to believe. Started excuse Me, [illegible] 1944. Our breakfast came down in a hurry! In Alex. I bought coffee table + desk chair. Stood in line an hr. to get car license, then got Va. gas coupons. I drove to Staughton Hall, then bus to Fru Hanson for lesson. Cotton's then Hans + I drove to Paul Jr Hi "The Soldier's vision" 62º 84º 1945 Didn't sleep from 12:30 till nearly 3, so felt [illegible]. K spaded some + set out 7 tomato plants, then came a shower. We drove in to get Ellen Story + took her + Hilda to Union station. They went to St. Petersburg, Fla. Their train late - so our car was impounded! Crowds, Roosevelt funeral. 1946. Kathryn + I left Bolin's about 7:30. She drove most of the way. Found Carl Brandt's farm south of Ft. Atkinson without trouble. Surprised them. Had dinner there. They were much interested in Hans' book. Drove to Wayne Weidemann's around 6. "Skotty" is walking!
