1942. Baked bread, choc. chip cookies + ice box torte (for Mother's Club). Hans + Jay left for Mich. Varnished Frank's floor + door + dresser. Nap. Planted row of beans Chatt's gave me. She helped me finish clean off old tennis court. 1943. Signe + I planted potatoes + early garden and I put in a few flower seeds, cleaned up rock garden. Took Sig to 3:15 bus. To Mothers' Club in eve a while. Adele + Hans each phoned. 1944. Baked cookies + bread, walked to Alex. + to blacksmith shop (1500 S. DUKE ST.) to get curtain fixture made. Sent Frank pkg. Signe here for supper, + Hilda + George came at 9:30. They showed us colored slides of Macon, Ga., New Orleans, cherry blossoms, etc. 40º 62º 1945. Face too swelled + I feel too weak to go to church. Finished Aldous Huxley's "Time Must Have a Stop". Sat in sun a while. Wrote 4 letters. Got my Washington Column up to date in scrapbook. 79º 1946. Dressed 7 lb. chicken I got form Olga. Dr. Muehlmeier worked on my teeth from 10-12. Took nap. Mary MacKenzie came at 4. Had chicken for supper. I took her to U.S.O. downtown. Rained on my way back. Glad to have rain. Wrote 2 letters. Hilda has canceled her wedding plans.
