April 23 1942 Varnished 3 doors in upper hall. Wrote Hans. Helped serve at Mothers' Club, but played 500 to fill out the 5th table. Read Steinbeck's "The Moon is Down" in eve. 1943. A busy Good Friday. Baked bread, oatmeal + choc. chip cookies, cleaned up the house cleaned out the flowerbed along the walk, walked to Davis' + Henkel's but no luck in getting meals for Frank. To church in eve- community service. Typed Woman's Club yearbooks. 1944. Wrote Edith W. + sent them $1200 check Hans + I drove to Arlington in P.M. Visited with Grace K. + at Bela Gold's. Herman Zap's there, too. Misty rain. 1945. Hans enc. letter from Frank in Germany. To Alex. twice. Got date in Wash. Dental Hospital. To City Hall to find out more about Val. income taxes. Took Mrs. Ramey's khaki sweater in to chapterhouse. K+ I, wet out 6 more tomato plants. Got first allotment: 600, for 2 mo. 1946. A beautiful day again. Ruth (Mrs. Leon Heinze)- soon to move to Portage (with my vacuum cleaner for her portable typewriter) + I did a huge washing in basement + hung in back yard. I made a fresh rhubarb pie, sewed on Signe's red dress. To Bruce Kirkpatrick's in eve for Naomi circle of WSCS. Saw Bob's Japanese kimonos, etc. TO wittenberg's to sleep.
