April 26 1942. 13 of us came home from S.S. in Mrs. Mietl's car! Began 2 scrapbooks in P.M. Grace N. Crowell's poems + other poems. Hard rain in late P.M. To Frank's baccalaureate in eve at H.S. Rev Rieff splke. 1943. Hans very sick, headaches + other aches, but got one interview near Amboy. Wilbur + I ate lunch at Amboy, he got last interviews then I drove 80 miles to Bloomington. Hans went to bed right away. I wrote up his interview. Rained. Dr. Raber gave him sulfa drugs. Temp 102°. 1944. "Fair + warmer" so did a big washing, as did Mrs. Maythaler + others. Took nap, baked bread + cream cake, ironed all except shirts. In eve Hans began spading our "Victory Garden, " and i to rake it. 84° 1945. K + I did a washing before we had to go to work. I was on Canteen duty 11-5 at Airport.Gave a lot of milk- some to boys just home from CBI. 20th airbase. Had ride home with Mrs Bibby. 1946. Stopped at Rentschler's greenhouses to talk with Mrs. Schwenn. Finished Signe's red house dress, buttonholed + all. Left on 2:00 P.M. train for Portage, where rode on "Hiawatha" to St. Paul, where I changed for St. Clous. Fred + Helen met me at train + took me for weekend for my first visit in 811 Fourth Ave So. where they have lived 6 years.
