April 27 1942. Shortened Kathryn's gray suit skirt, etc. + took in when I attended evening class at First M.E. church on The Church's part in Peace, by Rev. Atkins. Baked cookies + bread. 1943. Hans in bed all day on liquid diet. Tablets kept his temp. nearly normal. I helped him study dansk. Wilbur went out with our car- I wrote 4 letters for Hans + cards to Frank, Sig, + Beatrice. Card from B. Window shopped around square- finer than Madison. 1944. Raining, so drove to Alex. for mail, Canteen class, and a little shopping. Sent Frank 2 more books. Finished reading "The Family". Took nap. Put up bathroom curtain. 47° 60° 1945. Very windy. Ironed, got Hans' photos at last! Took in more clothing for UNRRA collection for Europe. Saw airplane wreck when I went in at 5:30 for BOOK class. 1946. Helen had several hours of teaching. I vacuumed rug, dusted, wrote several letters. She did one I had Wittenberg's help me write, - in German script, for Annie Schildknecht. We went out to "400" Club for broiled lobster tail dinner then shopped a little. I got sweet cocoa, carton of cigarettes! + pineapple cheese.
