April 29
83° 1942. Home all day except to Middleton for a little while. My new fringed tulips lovely. 9 kinds of flowers blooming. Had first rhubarb.
24° 1943. Hans better. I went on 10:05 bus to Champaign to see Beatrice. Oren + Helen got me and we had lunch + dinner there. Bea + I viewed their many chickens, brood sow, flowers. Had new asparagus. We dressed 2 chickens. Back to Bloomington at 9. Letter from Kathryn.
1944 More cleaning in our Apt. than would be expected. Pressed Hans' good trousers + put in new pocket. Shopped for more garden seeds- and planted some. Picked marsh mardigolds + "wild daffodils near Potomac.
1945. K + I to church. Read and napped + wrote letters.
1946. Fred took me to 8:30 bus at St. Cloud. Changed at Minneapolis. Ride on "Hiawatha" again thru lovely Mississippi bluffs from Winona to La Crosse, thru Wis. Dells. Sat an hour at Sparta, so to Madison at 7:15. Hilda met me- Read in "People on Our Side." To Wittenberg's at 10.
