May 1 1942. Finished ironing. New chair + mattress came out. Frank spaded for flowers. Lunch for him at noon now instead of eating alone. Took Mrs Henkel + Mrs. Rabe to Madison Woman's Club, where 4 Kirkpatrick boys played + Alise Gay spoke! Frank graduated from MHS in eve. K + Signe both came out. 1 of 8 with honors in 38. Frost. 1943. Waited 1 1/4 hrs. to buy gas, then I drove 120 miles to Belleille, then Hans. Stopped in Middleton. Home at 12. Only Z home. K came at 1, Frank at 5 also Dole Kelley. I baked bread, cleaned asparagus row, K. made "brooder coop". Worked on accts. 85° 1944. Washed, baked bread, muffins, cookies. Drove to Alex. for mail, then in to Wash. Parked by "" monument. Hans + I took vac. cleaner to 1717 G. St. for Hilda + got her card table + folding bed. Hans + I visited Potomac Clay Works in eve. 1945. Sent Hans' photo to Sig + his mother. Ironed + mended. To Canteen Corps mtg. at 1:30. Circle A mtg. in church office at 2. Mrs. Woodward had charge. I talked about "My Part in the REd Cross" We helped a Wis. soldier and a WAC find a preacher! 1946. Awoke at 4:30. Hilda + I slept in living room. Ruth Heinze + I did a huge washing. Thru by 10. Vacuumed rugs. Ruth Brandt at apt. for supper. Read "Rickshaw Boy" which Emma Hadly gave me to read when I called on her.
