May 6
1942 Rainy Frank painted the screens gray on one side. I helped with sugar rationing at school. We registered 189 out of [2?]60. Z + I came home for supper then worked till 9.
1943. More wind till eve dried up al the rain- Dale spaded NE 1/4 of flower garden, and we planted salsify, parsnips, beans, giant [zinnias?], wildfire Marigold, etc. Adele here on way to + from Madison.
1944. Head aches some yet, but I sent box of cookies to Frank, then took in tour of 10 old homes in Alexandria. Hans home late, 7:20 or so.
41° 60° 1945. Chilly + cloudy. Dr. Clarke preached on "The Challenge of the Church," Wrote Sig longer letter than usual + Hans a danish v. Read in A.J. Cronin's  "The Green Years" No heat in Apt. so had to use electric heater.
1946. Had to change plans as Madison shops not open in AM. In P.M. I got my car license, after they gave me a run-around to police station twice, etc. Took care of 3 yr. insurance on both our Middeton properties. Picked up projects from Dr. [illegible] at Lake Lab + Baskom Hall. Ellen Story + I had chicken pie dinner at Hallock's. I showed slides at annual business mtg. of Guild. Good crowd.
