May 17

1942. Mr. Critser phoned me last eve to supt S.S. - 70 there. talked on "I am an American" - 2 poems - Frank took Signe back to go on duty at 3. I napped, set out 119 more asters - the last. Wrote 7. Finished book. 
1943 Helen P. + I went to Capitol, Union, + WHA sightseeing while men were at Ag hall. After lunch we dug around a while then napped! Supper for 8. Hemmed seersucker pajama sleeves for Signe. 
1944. Extra cleaning. Wrote Doris W. Got new battery in car. Packed lunch + drove up to Ag. Bldg. Hans + I at in Rock Creek Park, talked dansk with Fru Hauser, went to Dansk Klub where Mrs. Chapline showed colored movies of "Arm." - beautiful
63 - 88 º 1945. Worked at Airport Canteen 11-5. many servicemen homeward bound. Practically all drank milk. 
Got a "bomber pocket" from Hans, a piece about the Land Army.
More rain. 
1946. Feel tough - no more steak for me. Kathryn came up on 6 AM train with extra day off. In eve Pauline, Signe, betty _ I had dinner at teh Italian Village, then went to the Eastward by bus to see "State Fair" + "Within These Walls".
