May 18

1942 Rainy A.M. Busy week begins: I scoured 11 honey pails, baked bread, cut out kitchen curtains + hemmed ruffles, enameled bath door. Telegram from Hans, Poughkeepsie, NY.
4H exec. comm. mtg. at Jane, then we all walked here for ice cream.
1943. Pownall's, Jay + Hans left at 9 for De Kalb, Ill. I washed from 10:30 to 1. Windy + cloudy. Set out plants, put in a few seeds. 
Hans phoned from De Kalb he is to be in AMA in 2 weeks. Got 7. Walter Scott killed in plane crash May 7. First break in circle. Evened hem on Sig's red skirt.
1944. Found Hilda's + Gov. here when we got home from dansk Klubben. She stayed, + we made the plaid cover for cat. Walked to Potomac in eve. It was rough. Weather turned cooler. Mail finally delivered at our apt.!
77º 1945. K + I washed + I hung it outside.
Went by bus to Fru Hanson's. She helped me with 3 dansk Brow, etc. She sewed too. 
Had my Xray treatment after 5:30 so then was late at my book class. which discussed W.L. White's Report on Russia and Richard Wright's Black Boy. Rainy coming home. 
1946. Made rest of white blouse (from old shirt of Hans'). Baked date cookies. 
Frank took Kathryn + me out ot Wittenberg's to stay over night. Stopped at Hadley's briefly; Emma told me Grace K had G.B. + appendix removed.
