1942. Baked whole wheat raisin bread, cleaned my bedroom + closet till I got too tired; got Sig from dorm at 1, and Hans from Miller Station at 4 from Chicago. Rainy in late P.M. Sig went back on last bus. 1943. Slept 8 1/2 hrs. or so! No trouble at all lately. Baked cherry pie, made ice cream, + veg. salad before going to church alone. 55 at S.S. Wayne + Doris here for dinner - also Dale K. To dedication services at church in P.M. Rev Beery "The Church of Tomorrow." Finished "Of Mice + Men" 1944. Began Red Cross course in nutrition, required with canteen. 10-12. Mrs. Kigen went with me. lunch with Mrs. Conlon, Smith, + Moore, then we made surgical dressings. Rain. Wrote 7 Got Charles' photo. 1945. Slept in big red chair till 3! Back better. Baked bread and ironed some. Drove in to see Hilda, Auto Ins. agent, B + O. Info., and to FEA as Hans wanted me to. Wrote Hans + his mother + '15 1946. Awake from 2-4. Up at 6. Signe left for Portage to spend day with Ruth Heinze. Hilda, Pauline, + I left apt. at 8:30, finished packing my trunk at Wittenberg's, saw Zillie, left Middleton 9:30. I drove to Dubuque 12:30. Got gloves, black ribbon. Took Pauline home; lunch there. She machined buttonholes in my white blouse. Rain all way to Maquoketa, 7:30. At Oskar's.
