Clara Steen Skott diary, 1942-1946

June 27

1942. Baked first cake this month - a marbled cream cake. Picked 5 qt berries - but nearly broke my back. Got 30¢ for 1 of them! Finished K's dress, altered Sig's rayon blue print for her. F worked at Rahmlow's all day, Sak's in eve. 
Was SS Supt. 
1943 I picked 1 + K 2 qt. strawberries for S.S. picnic at Mendota. Nice crowd in spite of gas rationing. We sat on cool beach - hot elsewhere. Ate ice cream, played croquet - + won in singles! Hard rain over.
Walked to bus at 9:30 with K - her vacation.
1944. 
We listened to H. Hoover + Clare B Luca at Rep. Convention in Chicago.
1945. Went to Edna Clarke Mitchell's about 10, from where I rode with Anna to P.O. then to Riley's for the day. Hot. Flo, Marie, Karen, Anna + I drove in for Edna, 4:30. Anna crocheted white purse, I did needlepoint. Crope coming better. Dora's at 11. 
90º 1946. Washed a bit, baked gingerbread while Millie + kids went to last DVBS. In PM. I went to Woodland with Gene 1-5. Bought 35 min. Perfex camera. Took 1 picture. Wrote letters in library. Bought pr. hoe of Western store manager. To DVBS "Commencement" in eve at Four Square church.
