1942. Cleaned out late carrot row. Had first carrots. Made strawberry shortcake + cream cake. Kathryn began summer school, bicycling in in 30 min. Bought our first war bonds. Kathryn picked 5 qt. strawberries - 682 in all. Mrs Daniels + I gave canning dem. in H.S. in eve to 15. 1943. So tired I didn't get up to stay till 8 - then I had lots of help - Jennie Markham helped in house cleaned floors (which I waxed), washed rest of windows (I put screws on); Elaine + Donna picked 13 1/2 qt. berries, Dean Davis mowed lawn, + Bernard wheel hoed garden. I washed, stemmed 13 qt. berries, made sunshine preserves. Dale K here for supper. 1944. Kathryn walked in to Alex. Signe came for first time this mo. as she finished night duty. K + I got beans + carrots from garden. She went to Chlorophyll factory. I made apple juice, finished pinafore, wrote dansk stypke. 1945. I went to Ration Board for Dora's sugar for canning, came home in rain. Vacuumed stairs, chairs, + rug. Rex took me to Edna's for porch picnic for Quills: Anna W, Flo, Amy M. Goss, Grace Graham; Edith W. came later. Amy brot us home. 1946. Baked apple crisp. After S.S. + Church we had picnic in Woodland Park then drove to Walter Floyd's, Galt (near Lodi). Greatly enjoyed visiting his mother, Carol, also his son George + wife, + Walter's second wife.
