July 1

1942. Backache is worse, but did the washing. Quite windy, turning cool.

Read most of "Last Horizons" in eve.
1943 Again slept till 8, after getting up at 5. Stemmed 6 qt. berries. Ironed. Mr. + Mrs. Kirkpatrick, Put. Neal Vernon, Wendell + Ethel Hall here for supper. They brot spuds, I fixed peas, ham, strawberry shortcake + ice cream. Hoed till tired. Hans came home from 7 wks in Washington.
1944. K went in with her dad + filled out her Civil Service Form 57 etc.
I baked bread, clean ed up house, cut out and made most of light blue net dress K. bought in Madison for me.
77º (high) 1945. rex, Dora, + I went to 1st Meth. Church. Army Nurse Margaret Kooser told us Elsie is Moved to Manila. 
Took nap to make up for post-picnic loss of sleep. Martha + Gene here for call. We served berries cake + tea.
99º 1946. Millie + I did a huge washing. Took nap in P.M. Too hot to do anything. Wrote poem. "Moving" before breakfast - Millie asked for copy. Fresh apricots + figs are good. In eve we went for walk to the               family, Castilians.
