1942. Mary Jo Miller + I went to church - took mixed bouquet. 5 in class + 2 men. 50 at S.S. Began reading "They Came to a River" 1943 Got to Waechter's at 1:00 A.M. took them pump jack. I drove from Platteville to Dodgeville, 30 mi. then K to home, 5:00 AM. Slept till 9:30. Baked bread + oatmeal cookies, made ice cream, patched 4 pr. Frank's pants. Fringe-seamed napkins on lunch set for Eliz. Cotton. Rain Hans + I pulled weeds in flower garden. 94º 1944. K. to Baltimore, then to Boston with Hilda and Signe for 3 days. Shopped a little in Alex; Red Cross was closed 10-1 for Norman Davis' funeral. Sewed all P.M. Wrote 2 letters, read dansk outside in eve. 1945 I picked a big kettle of peas in Als garden for dinner. Many had to leave right after dinner, to Omaha, then Seattle. Frank + I went to Riley's for supper, then we rode in country. Saw fine bottom fields corn. 99º 1946. My passport, visa, + ticket came from UNRRA office in Washington. Sewed on Gene's dress. Rode to Woodland at 10:40 with Paul, went to bank, Corner Drug Store for 6 35 min. films and more information on camera. Washed hair in P.M. Dried it in record time, 1/2 hr. Walked halfway to Woodland to get y first 35 min. film finished. Back with Gene.
