1942 Hot weather finally arrived - and how! Cut out blue dimity dress. hoed snapdragons, etc. Frank & Signe picked a few wild raspberries & 2 gal. gooseberries. 1943. Stayed up from 5. Hoed asters, etc. Hans & I went to Weidemann's, then to Madison. In eve, Geo. Zeigler, Mr. Zeinik here. Hans & I went to Joe Adler's. 1944. Kathryn and I drove to church. Dr. Clarke had same text as last Sunday! Too hot to do much. Read first chapter of Neils Ebbesen. Heard H. Wallace report on his trip to China & Siberia. 1945. Rex & I did washing. I hung the ruffled curtains in front room. Frank & I left Ames on 12:30 N.W. train. Read in "Apartment in Athens". To DeWitt at 4. Hitchhiked to Oskar's by 6. Surprised them. Fried chicken for supper! To Amanda's in eve. Saw Owen, Ronnie and Janice for first time. 1946 "San Francisco sizzles to 75º" to quote S.F. News. Wrote letters till about 11, went to Park with Nancy Pratt then I went down town to hunt trunk. 2 Messrs. Wallace very helpful; helped me find it at Pier 14 "On Hand" dept. I got it moved to Pier 44. Went to big open air market in eve with Harry & Hildegarde. Wonderful friends. Wrote letters
