1942. Hard rain in night. Picked 4 rows peas + got qt. from each - and a dishpan of beans. Signe helped shell + blanch. Sent in 8 qt. to locker with Kathryn. Otto Miller brought us deed to our place. More showers. Hot 1943 Stayed up from 5, hoed an hour or so, did the washing; got 35 lb. peas from John C. Acker, blanched them + Haus took about 20 qt. in to locker. Marjorie + Janet worked out dem. Haus sold '41 car to Nole's. 1944. Shampooed my hair, baked bread. Worked 2 3/4 hr. at Abingdon Recreation room on surgical dressings - K. made me spice shelf, + partitions in silver drawer. 1945. Breakfast at Leslie's, dinner at George's. Talked to Kathryn, Swayzee, Ind. Bertha took me to Iowa City where I went on Rocket to Des. M, where Frank + Chas. who "hitched" in - 4 hrs. met me, with Hazel, working there this summer. Bus to Ames 8:30 - Dora's at 10. Helen there. 57° 1946. We went [443?] miles. Very foggy, spray on deck, but took several walks. "Moderate swells on upper part of "North Circle Route", 410 lat. Finished book, began on China pamphlet. Lounge very crowded. Talked with Cantonese lady, + several missionaries.
