Jay W. here over night, from 5 last eve. 1942. Family of 5 up for waffle breakfast. Rained almost all day - K drove car to school. I went in about 9 with Jay, drove my car to Schenk's corners where Millie's + I wound up our affairs. Got K. [Droved?] Ardis, Bea G, + Dorothy [Sherbarth?] here for picnic supper. 1943 Hans + I straightened up our locker - cold job for hot day even with 2 sweaters + pairs of gloves on. In eve K. came out + we all went to look at old St. John's Lutheran Church. Watered garden with new hoze + nozzle. 1944. Kathryn began working for Chlorophyll, Inc. I did extra cleaning, made ice cream, shopped in 2 markets. Gladys Baker here for supper. We had an "Iowa farm supper", roasting ears anyway - 1945. More visiting. I fixed fried eggplant for dinner. Thawed last strawberries, with ice cream. We called at Al's; Helen left on 4:00 P.M. bus for St. Cloud. Harry Browns' picked Al's beans; Farwell Brown's called here. 60° 1946. S.S. Gordon sailed 461 mi. the last 25 hrs. @ 18 1/2 knots per hr. Still 3560 mi. from Shanghai. Lat. 42° 20" N., our farthest N. I stayed inside all AM for once, so foggy. Miss Allan + I out on rear deck in PM as long as sunny.
