Much cooler. 1942. Sig + I ironed; she picked beans + peas + I canned 7 pt. Frank to Menomonee Falls to State Bee Mtg. My knee better, but left side face swollen. Card from K. Miss [Blodan?] + Juanita called. Emil Zeutner took me to see Dr. [Muchmeier?]. 22:1943. Got gas in car with gas ration book 2. Picked up 5 girls at 8:30. In Ag. Engineering, watched Paul Bessey's 1st prize dem. on dehydrating veg. + some by girls. Elaine + Delores got 1st on [illegible] [jr.?] dem. Marjorie + Janet 3d. We had picnic in [Babcock?] Garden. I helped in dress revue. 82° 1944. Still muddy- pulled up 1st sw. corn rows Finished Ames dress while listening to 1st ballot for vice-pres: Wallace 110 ahead. On next Sen. Truman got it; K + J in eve to last Watergate Concert of National Symphony Orchestra. Rode home with a couple from [Lockhaber?]. 94° 1945 Hotter. I mopped + vacuumed rugs + stairs. Baked bread + gingerbread. Shampooed my hair + read in Churchill's "My Early Life". Sat in back yard in eve - needlepoint + paraphrasing Dora's "In My Garden" into verse! Light occupation! 85° 1946. Usual early A.M. shower (even cold H2O is hot). Could hardly wait the hour till breakfast. Up on upper deck in early AM. Rev. Woods preached at 10. Hard to find comfortable place. Very hot. Small shower in eve. Gospel "sing", Holy City. Talked with Chinese wearing "Iowa State" sweatshirt. 35° 20"N. Heavy swell in eve.
