1942. Home all day. Signe walked to church. Read "Edith Cavell". Mrs. Schmenn called. Wrote Hilda, Dora, + [illegible?]. 1943. Thru washing by 9:50. Picked + blanched 4# beans + took to locker, got canner from Mary Mack, took flowers to Ella Schmidt at St. Mary's, bought front room curtains. Jay Whitson surprised us, just as we had finished supper. 91° 1944. Went to Was. on crowded 8:30 bus. Got my new glasses at Blohm's. Home on 1:30 bus. Slept to rest eyes. Hilda out for supper + to sew on blue dress. Sat outside to cool off. 1945. Canned 4 qt. beans and 11 pt. apricots, most of which [we?] prepared. Seamed up skirt of Dora's dress. Letter from Frank, back at Camp Grant. Sent card + hdkf. to Mrs. Whalen. HOT 1946. Mrs. Lund and I up, had breakfast and rode to Embankment Bldg. by 8. I saw Mr. Price and Mr. "Casey" about keeping our room. Took part of Chinese lesson! Lunch at UNRRA then tried again to find Museum St. Saw Miss Allan on street + others from Gen. G. We ironed in eve.
