August 7 1942. Juanita helped me clean up the house. I baked bread, took nap, picked + arranged 7 bouquets. Very hard rain. Mr. + Mrs. Dasch helped 5 garden club members select veg. at Roberts'. Hans + Sig came home. 1943. Baked bread, canned 15 pt. corn and beans. Hot. Hans phoned from Madison + I met him at 9. Burton Wood's, 303 Princeton Ave. Watered garden. We got 4" on Foods Booth. 1944. Baked bread + did big washing. Got it dry just before it rained. Got tomatoes, beans, carrots from garden. First atomic bomb- Hiroshima. 1945. Left Ames at 7:30 with Jay W, via Boone, Perry, etc. to Menlo, before 10. Lunch with Emily H (Kitty there). TO Aunt Addie's. She drove to Greenfield repaired radio. Emily + I + Mrs. Willey along. Aunt Addie drove to our old farm (gone to ruin) + her old garm. Emily, she, + I ate supper at Kitty H. Hans' German snaps of great interest. 1946. Good sleep in spite of heat + woke feeling better, but still keep to diet of toast + tea + soup! Rogers of Travel Service actually gave us def. info. that we will go by LST Fri. Got passports back with extra page for Hopei province. Perspire terribly here. Walked to Methodist church 3 blocks. Rev. Anderson of Texas showed me thru. Got snaps.
