August 9 1942. To church + SS first time in 4 weeks. 54 there Sig back to dorm Mrs. Stanke preached, Jay Whitson, Paul Pownall + Adele + Fred + Mark here for roasting ear, chicken, ice cream dinner. Weidemann's + Carl Peterson came for lawn supper. Hans + I to Dairy Queen pageant at Stoughton + brought 4H exhibit + my flowers home. GOt 3 seconds 40¢ 1943. Hans left for Eau Claire with Mr. Wood, beginning field work with W Food Admin. I washed, had Dr. M. reset a crown, got new kitchen furniture at freight house, canned 4 qt. succotash. Frank hauled in 2000 lb. honey for Rahmlow. HOT 86° 1944. Waxed kitchen linoleum, worked cross word puzzle, cross stitched, hoed in garden, put in spinach + lettuce. 4 trrops trains-) Sig here for supper- ham-baked apples. 80° 1945 Cloudy. Wrote Hans + Lt. Pitcher, who writes Barkely Bros. forced him out. Went to Ames for reservations in to Wash- can't get any before Sunday. Took films for finishing, sewed up print blouse for Helen B, made pj pants for Signe, finished crocheting linen edge while Pres. Truman talked 1/2 hr. 1946. First night for a week we had breeze. Finally Rogers said I could take ATC plane to Peiping Aug. 13! Sent telegram to Hans, Mukden. Chinese lesson. Saw Riley sisters at lunch. They are sick this week. I lay down most of P.M. Movie sold out at 2:30. Reread Oil for the Lamps of China.
