August 12 Aug. 14 1942. Juanita helped clean. From 10-12 I met with exec. comm of district WSCS at First Church. I drove in. At 4 Hans, Frank, K + I drove to Baraboo via Merrimad. Had supper + visit at Adele's. Home at 11. Took her vegetables. 1943. A little rain- First since July 16, badly needed. Made tomato jello ring, with lime jello cubes + lima bean filling for Mrs. Zeigler's birthday party. My score 1760. We played on porch. Canned 3 qt. peaches. Cost of fruit, 33 3/4¢ per qt. 92° 1944 Awake from 3-5. K off to work at 7:30 (Sat.) Ironed 2 pr pants + dress, but woozy- guess I ate too many tomatoes. Wrote 7 circle. Sig + her husband came in- they told us they were married (July 22) + that Sig is to check out Tuesday for New York!!!! 1945. He had flown to Washington, I got taxi to take me to train, Ames 5:12- Chi 10:40. Lunch at restaurant. Wrote letters, Lucky to get an upper berth on the Capital Limited. Read more than 200 pages in Burma Surgeon. 97° 1946. Jeep ride to UNRRA. Hopes shattered to get to Tientsin as Rogers forgot to order my plane ticket. Gay L + I lunched on 2" floor. I washed my hair. Finished drying my hair in hall, where was a little air. Wasn't sure till I phoned at 4 I can not go tomorrow.
