August 12 1942. We finished big ironing. Chas. + Dave Scott worked with Hans all day+ could not get pipes out of well. Wrote Pauline in Finley hosp. since THurs. 1943 Hans investigated cheese factories at Brodhead + So. Leeds. I went along to the latter. Put first limas in locker. Backed bread. Mad 3 bouquets in eve, but hoppers are bad. 1944. Baked bread + cloverleaf rolls; did a huge washing. Ironed some. Hilda came out in eve- had melon + pineapple salad, then cakes when Sig + Sgt. came. She doesn't know exact time she will go. We bought "Americans" + dictionary + Bible from Mrs. McChesney 1945. More heat1 VJ proclaimed in eve. Hans + I went to FEA, where Hans talked to Lee Albaugh's group. Lunch on upper Conn. Ave. Fru Hanson not at home. Called on Mrs. Likert + Mr + Mrs. Paul Hansen + Mrs. Rossiter. Gave Danish doll for Danish Club. Plenty noise in eve. Visited on lawn with Norberg's + others. 1946. For first time rained all AM so I didn't go out thereby missing VJ parades. 2 phone calls to UNRRA. ATC office closed today so no ticket today. What next? Very discouraged, both of us. Finished reading Walter LIppmann "Our Foreign Policy". Not quite so hot. Laundered 3 thin dresses.
