1942. Kathryn + I interviewed Miss Grossenbaugh of [1 SC?] registrar's office with disappointing results, was more encourage by 1:30 P.M interview with Miss Fisher - chat with Miss Shottuck. To Iowa Youth Guest dinner in Barton Hall with Rita W 1943. Washed Put 3 qt. corn to dry in oven, Canned 4 1/2 qt. beans, corn + tomato combination. Met Hans at Top Hat at 5:30- (20) 1944 Wednesday drove to Alex to meet 9:13 train; no Frank. Waited an hr. for next train. K + I drove to church. Baked peanut cookies + made ice cream. 1945 Helen got us fine breakfast. "J.B." took me up "The Mound" (biggest in America) and up the Ohio River, past "Devil's Elbow" + on old buffalo trail. Left after 1, drove across Ohio on 40, in much heavy traffic, esp. around Columbus. Arr. at [Cownall's?] about 8:30. Kathryn there after week at Beatrice's. 89.6° 1946 So hot up on third floor I was permitted to move down on second - since the Agr. Commission left early this AM. Got a Danish book "Charlotte Munck" from Mrs. Christensen and read about 1/3 of it. So warm sat outside after tea. and up on roof after supper.
