1942. K + I helped Dora can 7 qt. corn + 3 1/2 tomatoes. Took her to her bandage center at 1. HOT. Took nap. In eve got Mrs. Beaty + the 4 of us went thru lovely formal gardens - then sherbets at Beaty's store. Found he sister married Millie's cousin. 1943. Hans drove Rahmlow's car in for 7:00 AM bus for Cambria. I picked, shelled + froze 3 pts. limas, shopped in Middleton, canned 2 qt. peaches + 7 qt. tomato juice, finished 2 qt. pickles, picked more. Made red, white, blue bouquet. K. home, moved to 529 N. St. 1944. Washed, ironed. etc. Packed 2 suitcases of Sig's things to take to Middleton to store. Sunned and sponged some woolens. 1945. We drove clear to Kokomo before we could find a place to sleep - at 2:30 AM. Awoke to hot day. Drove to Wis. Brandt's not home. At Weidemann's for supper + overnight. Cooler in P.M. a relief. One tire developed a bulge. 88° 1946 Sunny. didn't sleep till after 1 - and woke before 7 and spent 1/2 hr. on roof before breakfast. Read danish + in Lin Yutang "My County + My People" on lawn after tea. Phoned to Mr. Hunter in AM and walked to Eastern Gate of city. Took some snaps. Still no Hans! Watched a bridge game in eve.
