Signe came out last eve- sewed + baked pies today September 11 9th 1942. Baked 3 loaves bread. Only slept 3 or 4 hours last eve- too much grapefruit juice in our "War Time Refreshments". Did most of last week's mending. Took Sig, Patty Acker, Helen W. + Bea GIllen to Sunset Point for corn raost. Had 4H officer's meeting in Co. Agents' office. 1943. Trace of frost. Cooked + run thru our bushel of Whitney crabs. Canned juice, made crab + elderberry jelly + jam, + crab butter. Baked bread + apple crisp. Frank up in P.M good + hungry. First furnace fire. 1944 Did big washing. Partly cloudy, but all got dry. Baked brown bread. Drove to Alex. Sent Frank 50 cards. Wrote him + Sig + got letters from both. Signe safely over Atlantic + Frank at Camp Livingstone. Wrote danish in eve: "Landets Mod." 85° 1945 Ironed, tho it was hot job. Went to Washington to see about job on Wash. Post, but vacancy went to a former employe. Got $15 from Wallace's Farmer. Able to buy meat + sugar, but can't find any laundry soap. Wrote a Danish letter to Hans' cousin Marie Greisen. Cooler in P.M. + eve. 94° 1946. Except for short confab with Jim Hunter, Hans was here all day. I kept chem. hot pads on his back most of time. I ironed, pressed blue suit + 3 blouses, read dansk. We talked an hour with Christensen, partly on translation of Hans' interview with a Chinese farmer. Group in lobby again listening to Dr. Holzer.
