September 17 1942. Cloudy, then a hot wind. Made chili, harvested onions (gal.) picked lima beans, etc. Phoned Mrs. Vaughn I would not attend Dist. WSCS in Dodgeville today, + stayed home with Frank. Who is a little better. Went to library. Wrote Hans, Shirley, Alice, + Richard finished 4H books here. 1943. Mrs. Shaffer helped 6 1/2 hours; she cleaned downstairs except my bedroom. I cleaned cabinet, waxed linoleums, etc. I was tired when we got thru. 1944. Perry Gribble here most of forenoon. I shelled + cooked limas, baked apples, made ice cream. K + Rex to Wash. They went thru Pan. Am. building. 1945. Rained all day till 4 P.M. I baked bread, helped Hans type and put pictures in scrapbook, cleaned some and hung up kitchen curtains. 1946. Gave talk at 8 o'clock chapel in hosp. for nurses, drs, orderlies, etc. Which Miss Gould translated. Took their pictures in P.M. Then we got ricshas + visited several shops + foundries in Paotingfu. At 5 walked with the Drs. + E. Gall to the mud fort near the RR. Very windy + dusty.
