1942. Rain woke me at 4. A deluge in forenoon + in eve. Cleaned in fruit cellar + my room + did some mending + baking. Juanita + Dorothy here to finish 4H books 4-5. Only have 9 completed. Didn't go to 4H leader's mtg. 1943. I mopped + cleaned south room upstairs + stairs, etc. and my room - good day to clean "Casper" - windy. Marjorie + Janet practised their demonstration twice. Elaine has lame arm that Skippy M. put out of joint. Baked cookies + bread. K came with Hans. We met Hilda at 10 P.M. 73° 1944. Drizzly. Baked bread, canned 3 pt. apples, mended K's blue coat. Kathryn spent day in Washington, + eve with Perry Gribble. 1945 Poured all day. We went to Philadelphia on 9 AM train. Found Am. Friends' Foreign Service people: James Vail, Julia Branson, Alice Shaffer, Gilbert White. Lunch with them at Adelphia Hotel. Went to see birthplace of the U.S. Independence Hall + Liberty Bell. Home at 8:30. Sun shining in Maryland! 1946. Escorted again by Rev. Galt + Edith, Drs. Lewis + Cochrane, after 7 o'clock breakfast. We walked to R.R. then back to Peiping on 8 o'clock train. Rested. Miss Anna Bøg Madsen spent an hour or more telling us her adventures in getting here. We talked with several other Danish women in lobby in eve.
