October 5 1942 Windy, cloudy, rain in eve. Canned 2 qt. pears. Sent birthday card to Helen. Painted "Scotty" Mrs. Daniels here in eve- we re-vamped recreation letter to other organizations. 1943. Hans left for Eau Claire, etc. Wrote Comments + news long hand! Walked to Guest Day at Woman's Club. Mrs. Jennie M. Turner spoke on "Winning the Peace". Wonderful day. Mrs. T, Mrs. Roberts walked till Mr. + Mrs. Ruth brought us home. Called on Mrs. Henkel. 56° 64° 1944. Sewed on danish dresses. Drove to Grace Kirkpatrick's. Hazel Cessna Kimming with her. Grace + I shopped in food stores. I drove over Key bridge instead of memorial bridge- Georgetown traffic, but met Hans at 23d + F. Ate in Rock Creek Park, then 2 hr Danish lesson (most of which I used). 44-66 1945. Drove to Red Cross 1-3, whew Capt. of Ft. Belvoir recorded our voices then played back our recordings! I talked on first aid- needed some when heard my recording! Hans in D.C. for first time, this week- and found his work has been given up- so won't be going back to Germany. 43° 69° 1946 Feel better. Took rickshaw to hospital. Hans + I came back in UNRRA car about 10:30. He went to dining room for lunch, but Dr. Holzer said once a day is enough. Dr. Holzer Mrs. Irey, Mr. Christensen, Mr. Scratch called. We read LIFE of Sept 2 + 16! Almost had dystentery. Did some washing- roof a perfect drying place.
