October 7 1942. Fine day. Got yeast + made bread + rolls, ironed, sulphured a gallon of Jonathan apples, canned 2 jars pears, made 2 glasses jelly. Began reading "Windswept" 1943 Am fighting off a cold. Frank still in bed, 3" day. Ironed, prepared a lot of vegetables for sandwich spread. Mended. Letter from Sig, first this week. Finished Washington, U.S.A". 59° 85° 1944. Heard fog bell on river, but day fine + sunny. Walked to bank, baked bread, washed my hair, sunned some suits, wrote to Sig + Sarg (In Ky: on leave_ + sewed some. Heavy rain in eve. 1945 Nice day. I wrote about Skyline Drive for MTT. We drove to Fru Hanson's, then spent an hour at Likert's. Dr. Likert thinks there is still a chance for State Dept. job. Nice day. Hans fagged out when we got home. 1947. We read in "Indiscreet Letters from Peiping" + began "Blomstanaende Verden".
