October 24 1942 Washed 13 storm windows + puttied a few. K washed 12 windows outside in P.M. Shopped an hour in Middleton. Baked bread, fruit cake, + cookies. To annual 4H Achievement in eve in Ag. hall. Took Juanita, Alice, + Elynor. 1943. Hans + Frank took trailer load of bee equipment to St. John's while I went to church + S.S. Rev. Webb talked for Anti-Saloon League. Hans + I read dansk. 40° 66° 1944. Awake quite a bit in night, Napped in A.M. Managed to get ironing + mending done, but not much else. 54° 58° 1945. Went to Washington in P.M. Got blue sweater for Aunt Kjistine, 2 more films, white seersucker for my nightie ($2.67!) Made wine + striped peasant apron for Marie Greisen. Did up most of the Christmas parcels for Danmark. 50° 76° 1946. 2 letters poa dansk- from Denmark & from Elna. P. Grand day- maybe the last of our "Indian Summer." Went with Hans in P.M. to office in car, then walked to French Convent- last day of exhibition of their orphans' work. Bought several pieces. We went to Pekin Hotel for Hans' haircut, to Harting's for pics of great Wall. "Shuang Chiang"- Frost's Descent.
