November 6

1942  Signe was home 9 - 5:30 sewing. I dusted upstairs, cooked a pumpkin, basted Sandra Bell's dress, cut blue one for Helen Bolin. Crocheted on cotton rug. At Hazel's Guild Circle card party. Score 2080.  Got (7).

1943  Stored carrots. Left for Maquoketa at 12:30. Coasted down every hill to save gas. To grandma's at 5. Carl Hartvigsen there. Talked dansk. Hard rain in eve. We made more than 30 miles per gallon gasoline.

1944  Lots of mail - wrote to Sig. Grandma wrote nearly all day. I baked bread, cleaned out more drawer space for her - Sarge (now a Staff Sgt.) here in eve. Hilda came after he left.

1945  Nice and sunny. Washed. Awoke at 3 AM to think of Hans' proposed yr. in China for UNRRA. I went to Circle A of WSCS and "Week of Prayer" mtg.  To Canteen mtg. in eve - helped serve and make sandwiches. Was in Home Nursing skit. Jo Torpy brought me home.

1946   Still cloudy. Finally getting warm water. I washed my things. Read most of L. Carrington Goodrich's "A Short  History of the Chinese People".
