1942 Awake from 3-5:30! Baked cherry pie and honey nut bread for bazaar. Juanita cleaned here from 8-11. Worked in rummage booth from 2-8:30. Sold 8.90 besides 5 boxes Christmas and AO cards - Home 8:45. Kathryn waited tables. 1943 Studied dansk till after midnight so slept till after 8. To church. 56 at S.S. Brought home my box geraniums, ruined by city gas. Zillie here for supper and till 9:30. 1944 So cold and windy I hung most of our washing inside, on a line I put in basement. Scrubbed Venetian blinds in bathroom, crocheted on apron, beginning the blue Sarge in, worried not to have heard from Sig for 4 days. 1945 74°. Fine day; we bid the Storys and Chris Hanske goodby and left "St. Pete" at 8:45. Mrs. Story took us to train. Poky local; we got off at Gainesville, walked to Univ. of Florida. Took picture of poinsettas. Could find neither white nor Negro county agent. Supper at Varsity Grill. Saw "Son of Lassie". Slept at Gilbert Hotel. 1946 Cable from Shanghai office we are to come down; arrangements being made for us to go on a Chinese boat. We spent much of day writing many more Christmas cards and notes. Bought some rope and persimmons.
